- What is the purpose of buying a projector? For classroom/conference hall/home/auditorium ?
- What is the size of the classroom/conference hall approximately? Length, Breadth, Height in Feet(approximately)
- How many hours per day are we going to use? Based on this, one can understand which light source technology to go for. Mercury lamp projectors have light source life of approximately 3000 to 5000 hours, LED light source projectors have nearly 20,000 hours light source life(depending on models)
- What devices am I planning to connect to the projector? Laptop/Desktop/Smartphone/Tab ?
- What ports are available on my laptop/desktop? The latest projectors may or may not have VGA ports, hence you need to know beforehand about the ports available on your devices.
- Do I need to project from Smartphone/Tab occasionally? Sometimes it helps to click a useful piece of information with a smartphone and project it to the class, to make the session more interesting.
- Do I need a screen for the projector? Two types of screens are in use- fixed and movable. Screen sizes will be generally 6 feet by 4 feet / 8 feet by 6 feet etc., Width and Height. Can be larger also depending on the projection distance.
- If you do not wish to install a screen, then on which wall of the room will you project? The image size will be approximately 84 to 120 inches diagonally. Need to have a blank wall(without any furniture).
- Do I need to fix the projector to the ceiling? Ceiling mount kit, cables will be required for the same. They are over and above the projector cost.
These questions will help you to understand what points one needs to know before calling for quotes. Invariably the vendor would ask for these and some more before submitting a quote.
